Hand Heart Pocket has launched a Disaster Relief Appeal in the wake of ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, with $50,000 donated to GIVIT on behalf of the Freemasons of Queensland
Communities from Coolangatta to Hervey Bay, and inland across the south-west last week experienced damaging winds, extensive flooding and unprecedented power outages, as the ex-tropical cyclone made its way across Queensland and into New South Wales.
The full impacts of the disaster are still being assessed, with power outages continuing and substantial flooding in the Lockyer Valley only just subsiding. We will continue to work closely with our partner GIVIT as they assess community needs and begin to coordinate relief and recovery efforts.
Thanks to our ongoing partnership with GIVIT, Members can be assured that our response is activated quickly and effectively whenever disaster strikes, and importantly, that 100% of all donations made through a Hand Heart Pocket Disaster Relief Appeal will directly support affected residents.
Funds raised through our appeals provide communities with emergency essentials such as food, clothing, and medical supplies during the crisis, and help families replace essential household goods once they can safely return home.

2) Refer Affected Community Members for Assistance
If you know people impacted by this, or any disaster, encourage them to seek assistance from local community organisations that are registered with GIVIT.
You can find out which organisations are registered in your area by searching on GIVIT’s website.
Queensland Freemasons and their families who are experiencing financial hardship may also be able to seek assistance through the Masonic Fund of Benevolence (MFOB) by contacting Peter Troeger, Mob: 0407 178 336 or email: peter@uglq.org.au
